Knitting Circle
Invitation from Christine
“If you knit and are coming to my show, why not bring your knitting with
you. Come a little early and we can have a knitting circle before the
concert. And if you bring your knitting, can you bring an extra set of
needles because maybe there will be someone there who would like to learn how
to do it and you could help show them? Should those who crochet be included?
Yes! And bead workers. And quilters. Am I skipping anybody? Knitters spread the
word.”

Marc Berger & The Posse - RIDE!
“[Ride] is the breathtaking grandeur of the high desert and plateaus suspended between the pioneer days and ten minutes ago…this is country folk music wrought by a working philosopher who's missed nothing, kept a lot inside for a time, and captured the land.”
-Folk & Acoustic
Music Exchange
Berger has performed at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. His song, “The Last One,” has been performed by Richie Havens in the United States and Europe, and has been quoted in the New York Times and featured on the CBS Evening News.
Ride is currently receiving in-store airplay at Starbucks stores worldwide. Additionally, Marc has been touring, and Ride has been receiving glowing reviews nationally and internationally.
"Not the glossy ‘singing cowboy’ style western music of the romanticised past, but gritty, cinematic talesof the real west...at times stripped bare, at other times dramatic and haunting... RIDE is a musical journey that will bring you endless listening enjoyment and experience like no other album I’ve heard this year."

Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway, and Joe Jencks have formed a dynamic
new male trio called "Brother Sun." Their harmonies, as much as their
lyrics, tell what they are about: warm asa campfire, stirring as a
gospel church, rousing as a call to arms. Calling upon contemporary
songwriting, and informed by the deep roots of gospel, blues, and folk, the trio weaves a tapestry of harmony that is brilliantly fresh and yet familiar. Nationally touring Folk
artists from three major points on the map - Boston, New York, and
Chicago - Pat, Greg, and Joe celebrate the amazing power of singing
together. Their combined musical skills should make for an
unforgettable evening - three rich voices blending on a well-crafted
foundation of guitar, slide guitar, and piano.
After
two years of nationwide touring and performances marked by outstanding
songwriting, ethereal harmonies, off-the-cuff humor, and standing ovations,
Brother Sun is releasing Some Part of the Truth - a CD
that goes a large step further in revealing Brother Sun not only as
singers, but as complete musicians.
Some Part of the Truth is cinematic in its sweep, each song like a
short film. The CD takes us on an evocative and vivid journey through America's
cities and heartlands, where unsung heroes struggle and sometimes win the daily
battles of life and love. Producer Ben Wisch shaped the mood and
atmosphere of each song, with Wictor, Jencks and Greenway all providing
instrumental touches ranging from subtle to bold. With even richer and more varied vocal arrangements than on
their debut, Brother Sun keeps reaching higher, and their joy in singing
together gives the CD its indelible optimism.
QUOTES:
"What happens when you unite three of the
best male singers in the folk realm who already revel in harmony
singing? Brother Sun. While numerous delightful female trios harmonize,
few men bond that way these days (unlike the days of the folk revival
when they were the norm). Added to great voices, energy and sincerity
are worthy compositions in three distinct styles that bring to mind a
modern day gospel."
- Rich Warren, WFMT, Midnight Special, Chicago, IL
"Is
there any reason why any music festival in America would not want to
book this talented, versatile, can do just about any stage, trio? I
can't think of any. "
- Anne Saunders, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival
"The
real breakout artists [at Falcon Ridge] this year had to be Brother
Sun... who've come together to form a trio that's all about harmony - in
their music and in their lives. Their joyful music making earned them a
standing ovation in their mainstage set."
-John Platt, WFUV
"I
just heard one of the best new songs of my life. The song is called
"Trouble," and the group is called Brother Sun. Three magnificent male
voices--together. Gives me the chills--in the nicest way ever!"
-Gene
Shay, WXPN
"......excellent
music superbly performed.....The music of Brother Sun gives us courage
to strive for a better world and to make more of our own lives. Thank
you for that."

Randall Williams
Randall Williams explodes onto the scene like a bolt of lightning. It’s rare that a honey-toned tenor carries as much force as Williams. Combine that voice with highly articulate guitar work and superlative songs for a most powerful presence”. Sing-Out Magazine
Classically trained, Randall Williams graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Mons, Belgium at the head of his class. Lynne Andrews: “When Randall left the confines of classical music largely behind, they lost a great talent, but the world gained a good friend - a friend who will tell its stories with grace, compassion, humility and humor.”
Praying for Land has 11 original songs, and one cover, “Causeway,” by Darithi Rua. The songs are poetic, well crafted and interesting. The music hooks your ears while the contents catch your feelings. There’s an uplifting emotional context to this album combined with a degree of social consciousness.

Claudia Nygaard's
affable connection with an audience has led reviewers to describe her
as “Will Rogers without the rope”. She is a born storyteller, and with
her quick wit and a disarming emotional vulnerability, she introduces
her songs with tales nearly as captivating as the songs themselves.
A
former Nashville Music Row staff songwriter, Claudia has learned her
craft. Every song on her new CD “Let The Storm Roll In” has gotten
airplay, and the recording has cross-platformed onto three separate
radio charts.
It has also been highly praised by the press...
“
Claudia
has a talent for finding in a simple phrase the most excellent songs,
where anyone else might hear nothing. I am continually amazed by the
emotions she can evoke; heart wrenching I cry every time, to a social
statement which could be a call to action or at least some inner
searching, to sexy and funny that leaves everyone in the room
delightfully joyfully heated. She is a pleasure to work with and gives
her best every time. Always delighted to have her at Kerrville!” Dalis Allen, Producer of the Kerrville Folk Festival
"I
have been hosting concerts for 40 years and house concerts for the last
twelve. I would have to say that Claudia Nygaard's house concert was
one of the most personal and engaging of the audience that I have ever
seen. She had them from the get-go to the encore. Paul Barker, Barker House Concerts, Austin, TX
"Claudia
was a smash hit with our audience. Her songs, her stories, her
charming wit, and her engaging personality combined to provide all of us
with a wonderful evening of entertainment. We are definitely looking
forward to her return to our stage in the not-too-distant future." Kelson Slayman "Folk at the Cannery", Dataw Island, SC
“Claudia Nygaard is down to earth, fun, and a little bit mischievous… just like her music.”

"Deliciously rootsy … as meaningful as it is melodic." Bob Makin - The Courier News
“Patrick
has such a melodic gift and such a crystal clear voice it's hard to
believe he was originally known as the drummer with From Good Homes.
With this CD, he's definitely found his calling as a singer-songwriter
of the first rank.” John Platt - WFUV Radio
“I've
been following Patrick's music since I first heard the title track from
'The Changing,' his 2001 release. His smooth voice is perfect for his
lyrics, which can be reflective ("you can find if you wish to / Enough
love and joy in this old world to see us through" and romantic ("Take me
love / Into your warm embrace"). His guitar playing is excellent, and
the songs range from soft folk-pop to rhythmic folk-rock. His live shows
showcase his warmth as a performer, as well as his musicianship as a
singer/songwriter, as evidenced in this live recording.”
Andy Tokash - WVKR Poughkeepsie, NY
Patrick
has just released "Hope Is", his sixth CD and first on Malletts Bay
Records. The title is directly inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem,
"Hope Is the Thing With Feathers" but the album's emotional content is
grounded in powerful real life events. This CD is the Vermont based
songwriter's definitive statement after a victorious battle with
cancer. Fitzsimmons started working on the songs for "Hope Is" back in
the winter of 2011. Creatively blocked, he forced himself to
write a song per day for a week via Skype for his west-coast
girlfriend, calling them “Skype Dates”. The songs found their way to the
album. The buoyant drive of the album marks a compositional
breakthrough for the critically acclaimed songwriter who has been called
“one of the most captivating songwriters around today” by Relix Magazine.
Fitzsimmons
is a 2011 and 2012 Solarfest national songwriting contest finalist and a
three time Ploughshares national songwriting contest finalist and has
had his songs placed in several independent films. Patrick's last CD, So Beautiful So Blue, made several Best of 2008 lists and was played on radio stations all over the country.
Patrick
has shared the stage with some of the acoustic music scene's biggest
names including Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams, Roger McGuinn, Ellis Paul
and Vance Gilbert. Fitzsimmons continues to tour throughout the
northeast building his large and loyal following with soulful,
captivating performances.

Folk-pop artist
belongs to a musical dynasty
of impossibly gifted singer-songwriters.
.
“…one of those singers whose performance
is a force of nature.” - Sing Out Magazine
Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright,
sister-in-law Kate McGarrigle, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha
Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of
contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique
songwriting ability but her dramatically voiced rendition of her
original songs.
“…A lot of singer-songwriters are whitebread. Sloan is whole grain.” - WFMT Radio, Rich Warren
“She’s folk-influenced, obviously (you can’t grow up in the First
Family of Folk and not be, one imagines), but the real star here is her
voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous lyrics
seem all the more intense.”
"…earth mother voice that she pours into unexpectedly sensitive blends of folk, jazz,
blues and funk" - The New York Times
Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright
consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American
musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the
melodious tone of her rich contralto. The end result, a unique and
soulful hybrid.
“Celebrating a new album, Upside Down & Under My Heart,
Wainwright is always a pleasure to behold live.
The way her voice
rumbles like thunder on a mountaintop will make you a believer. ” - The
Boston Globe
With a solid and impressive discography of 8 original CD releases to
her credit, Sloan continues to write, sing and perform live.
In addition, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for
theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master
songwriter series and workshops. Sloan’s open spirit and first-hand
experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical classrooms of
such prestigious song camps as The Swannanoa Gathering, Summersongs,
Wintersongs, WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW) and Lamb’s
Retreat.

Marci
Geller, a piano-based contemporary singer-songwriter from Stony Brook,
New York, has recently released her first solo project since
disbanding her popular trio, Lucky 13, in 2011.
While the music industry focuses on younger and more mainstream
artists/acts, and with labels in a state of panic amid ever decreasing
CD sales, Marci Geller is a seasoned indie artist who is remaining
grounded in the music and is focused on sharing it with people -- and
not on “fame.” She has been pursuing her career as an independent artist
since the mid-1990s and believes that life is even better, the musical
message is even clearer, and the success is getting sweeter as she
appeals to an audience that is intelligent and reflective about their
lives and eager to live them.
The new CD, Open Book, is a frothy mix of irony, humor and whimsical
honesty with folk sensibilities. Geller called upon long-time friend and
musical collaborator David Warner Cook to lay down acoustic guitar and
co-produce with her and her husband, Gian DiMauro.
Having
shared the stage with luminaries James Maddock and Vance Gilbert, she
invited them to add their talent to Open Book. Without
hesitation, both expressed their excitement about supporting Geller and
her new project. Maddock's voice fit like a glove on "Day Without the
Kids," and added gripping and haunting vocals on "Awakened Mind."
Gilbert's soulful duet performance on "No Weather Down" was recorded at
Neale Eckstein's Fox Run Studio. "Jack Sang On" is a tribute to the
late Jack Hardy, written by Geller after hearing of the passing of the
legendary folksinger-songwriter.
“With intelligent lyrics, captivating melodies and inspired vocal
pairings with James Maddock and Vance Gilbert, Marci Geller’s latest
release, Open Book, is a great listen from the first song to the last,”
says Alan Marzelli, curator of the Words & Music concert series at
the Ossining (NY) Public Library. Noted singer-songwriter Lori
Lieberman calls Open Book “a lovely collection of songs that reflect
the artist’s inner strength and positivity. Songs / music /
arrangements / vocals – just beautiful.” Calling Open Book “a
well-crafted musical treat for the soul,” singer-songwriter Reggie
Harris says: “Marci’s crisp, warm vocals ride the wave of this smartly
articulate production -- creating a wondrous space for the lyrics and
melodies to find their way into the heart.

Gathering Time
"Gathering Time ... has perfected two separate but related art forms:
three part harmony and having a ball on stage! When they harmonize, some sort of
undamental, cosmic concordance occurs that makes you very happy that you have ears.”
Bob McKillop, MaineFolkMusic.com
... known for their seamless vocal blend,
memorable melodies, meaningful lyrics
and
easy-going, fun,
on-stage chemistry
WFUV's John Platt has written that they are "among the finest performers
in the New York metropolitan area,
whatever the size of the venue, from
a house concert to an outdoor festival," with "harmonies that can charm
the birds out of the trees, strong original songs, and a savvy
repertoire of cover songs, ranging from
traditional folk to classic rock. They appeal to audiences of all ages."
“Hearing Gathering Time in person has got to be on your list of things
to do before leaving this world. The trio harmonizes so beautifully your
spine will tingle from the vibes. Next opportunity you have to see them – jump on it!"
Barbara Maurer, Jammin' Jules House Concerts, NJ
"I have to say that Gathering Time is right up there with the ones
we all know -- they are the next generation of great trios with
meaningful music performed in awesome harmony."
Bill Hahn, WFDU 89.1FM "Traditions"
Voted best band runner-up (and top folk band) in the 2011 Long Island Press readers' poll, Gathering Time is like a high-energy Peter, Paul & Mary or a co-ed Crosby, Stills
& Nash, with various parts of The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles
and America; a head-turning folk-rock harmony trio described recently as
"getting a whole beehive-full of buzz" on the northeast regional folk
scene.
Founded in 2006 by Stuart Markus, Glen Roethel, and Hillary Foxsong,
Gathering Time quickly became a fan favorite. The trio has strong roots
in traditional folk as well as '60s and '70s folk-rock, and they've been
known to sprinkle in some of those classics among their original sets.
